It's really a shame to limit yourself to chain restaurants when if you just learn what food calorie values are, you can essentially find something you can eat anywhere. NYC has too many wonderful restaurants to have to restrict yourself to culinary pablum on a regular basis.

In a pinch, if you order a salad with lighter dressing on the side and then an appetizer as your main course, you'll stay within normal portion parameters.

The problem with chain restaurants is not only their calories but other things they may add to their foods like too much salt or MSG, and chemical additives that really should be avoided anyway.

The best way to lose weight is to make your own food, that way you know what's in it at all times but when that's not possible, knowing the caloric values of foods will mean you don't have to search for these chains, (which aren't that prevalent in NYC anyway) to find an acceptable meal.
References :
chain restaurants and fast food have them on their website. chili's has calories specifically listed on the menu for their guiltless grill menu and applebees has calories on the menus for weight watchers items. yum yum!!
References :
Most chain restaurants, not only the fast food ones, do post their nutrition facts on line.
