Best of Kyoto: Traditional restaurant

I am just starting the third course of an eight course kaiseki dinner at Kashin in Kyoto,Japan. It is grilled scallops and white fish marinated in miso. Notice the full glass of fresh Suigei sake from Kochi.

My wife and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary at our favorite Kyoto restaurant, Kashin, just south of Kyoto station, behind Avanti (Fismy) Department Store.

It’s not easy to find; they don’t advertise. But they do speak English and have an English menu too.

The phone number is (075) 661-7550

Please ask for Keiko.
I used to be her English teacher.

I am afraid not. In euro per person, fixed menu, without wine, they would be Astrance 200, Vau 150, Chiavi d’Oro 100, Lamenyin 80.
In Osaka though I stumbled upon a place that knocked me out – Kaishoku Shimizu. Less expensive and nearer to Kyoto :-) ) Enjoy.

Thanks for noticing. I fixed it.

I’d like to try those restaurants that you recommend. Are they as reasonably priced as Kashin?

Too bad the main information is missing. This was filmed at Kaishin, the restaurant of Kitamura Keiko, my favourite restaurant in Kyoto. What did I say? One of my top five restaurants in the world. The others are Astrance in Paris, Vau in Berlin, Chiavi d’Oro in Arezzo-Italy and Lamenyin in Antwerpen, Belgium.
